Master Pages in Moss

Its been a while since my last post!!!

We customised the default.master page so that it had the client’s banner and logo and applied it to the top level site. We then went into site actions and and set this master page to be inherited to all sub-sites. But the master page wasn’t carrying through..spent hours figuring out the reason..tried all kinds of stuff and in the end got the solution(Thanks to Paul Turner)…

It was a simple case of using relative addressing instead of absolute addressing. Once we changed all the URLs to absolute, we expected everything to be hunky dory – but unfortunately Nope 😦 All the subsites did carry through the banner and logo  – that is all except the Search Centre Site. ( This is the default Search Center site that is part of the Document Management Site Template)

We then created a new master page without the content placeholder for Search scope and applied this masterpage to the Search Center site and it all worked merrily! Weird!!! Don’t know the reasoning behind this – once i figure it out, I’ll blog it!
